Race Opportunity in Winthrop, WA
Saturday and Sunday January 21-22, 2012
The Methow Valley Nordic Club (MVN) would like to invite skiers
to join us in a weekend of superb nordic racing in the Methow Valley.
Our annual 2-day pursuit race, organized by the Methow Valley
Sport Trails Association (MVSTA), is back with the popular
format of a 15 km classic race on the first day, and a 30
km point-to-point skate race the second day. New this year,
junior races (J6-J3, ages 7-12) have been added both days to
make this a family event.
The Methow Valley Pursuit is a signature event of our winter
season and can be enjoyed as a 2-day or 1-day event. The
Saturday classic ski portion will use a new course of mostly
open and rolling terrain starting and ending at the Winthrop
Town Trailhead, near the new pedestrian bridge. The Sunday
skate course will use the unique and beautiful Community Trail
route from Mazama to Winthrop. Pursuit class participants ski
the 15 km classic race the first day, in which their finish
times determine their start times for the 30 km skate race on
the second day. Non-pursuit skiers may choose to participate in
Saturday's classic ski event or Sunday's skate ski event or
both.
Also back is the traditional Saturday night awards dinner
organized by the MV Nordic Team. Plan to join us Saturday
evening as the MV Nordic Ski team hosts a fundraising lasagna
dinner with all the trimmings. There will be awards for the
One-Day Class classic race, first day results for
pursuit skiers, start times for Sunday's events, awards from
the Saturday MV Biathlon races, and a great slide show. Tickets
for this dinner are available with online registration or at the
door.

Raffle Drawing to be held at the ski
club
meeting
on Feb. 12th for
Bitterroot Cross-Country Ski Club Extravaganza
The date for the dinner and night at the cabin for four is
Feb. 21st, 2009.
You do not have to be
present to win. See below for locations to
purchase tickets.
This year should be special due to the fact that a professional chef,
Paul Sharp will be preparing and serving the dinner for four during
their stay at the hut on February 21st. No, Paul will not be staying
the night. He will leave after serving the meal. The .pdf document
lists a variety of places that you can purchase tickets for the
raffle. The location that sells the most tickets will also be
provided a night at the hut, but they will be on their own for meals.
If you want raffle tickets, but can't make it to one of the next two
meetings or one of the locations selling tickets, you can send me a
check and I will send you your tickets. I have included information
regarding the raffle below.

For the past 15 years, the gourmet cooks and pastry chefs of the
Bitterroot Cross-Country Ski Club have prepared an epicurean
extravaganza atop the Continental Divide for four lucky people. The
early Extravaganzas were prepared at the May Creek Cabin on the
Beaverhead National Forest. Dutch oven masterpieces, with appetizers,
wine, and desserts were the initial fare. The May Creek Cabin was
re-built by Volunteers from the Cross-Country Ski Club and is now a
Forest Service Rental Cabin.
The Extravaganza has been held at the beautiful Gordon Reese Cabin
for the last eight years. This Cabin is located on the Continental
Divide within the Chief Joseph Cross-Country Ski Area near Chief Joseph
Pass. All proceeds from ticket sales benefit volunteer trail
grooming expenses. The trails are free and open to the public.
Raffle tickets ($1.00 apiece or 6 for $5.00) for this extra-ordinary
dining and skiing experience are available at:
