Como Trails 3/8/19

Rolled all of the trails today, 8″ of new snow on top of last weeks grooming.

Set tracks on the downhill side of 550, most of Middle road and all of Lower road. I apologize for the wiggly tracks on Lower, we were dealing with deep new snow and a soft base, track pan seemed to have a mind of it’s own.

Still too soft for bikes, barely enough compaction for skating, hopefully it will set up more tonight. We just keep getting so much snow we have not been able to stay ahead of it and get it well packed down.

One of the clubs snowmobiles broke down while we were on Lower road and we were not able to clean up the 550 down to the Boat ramp due to running out of time. It is packed well just not groomed.

Chief Joseph Pass 3/8/19

Most ski trails at Chief Joseph Pass were groomed this morning. Should be great skiing this weekend.

This weekend is the snowmobile hill climb at lost trail, in past years many of the riders have used the multi use trails to warm up, so if you are planning on skiing those trails this weekend expect more and faster snowmobile traffic than usual.

Chief Joseph Pass 2/28/19

All ski trails except banshee were groomed at Chief Joseph Pass Thursday. The snowcat is currently in for repairs so there will not be any grooming for the next few days, but we are hoping grooming will resume on Sunday.

It’s probably not going to be good conditions for skating at Chief Joe this weekend, but should be great for classic skiing and snowshoeing.

Come Trails 2/22/19

Como report.

All trails groomed today, no tracks set .

Will be good skating in the morning thru mid afternoon when the next batch of snow will start to render it no fun.

We plowed the road today up to the parking areas but it’s still challenging in spots. Even the upper lot on 550A is plowed out.

Conditions are way too soft to Fatbike on due to the amount of snow we’ve gotten and the cold temps. We were not able to compact it enough to create a rideable surface.

Some folks rode up there yesterday and broke every rule for Fatbikes on ski trails, some of the worst ruts we’ve ever encountered. Very hard to remove with Snowmobile grooming equipment.

Please respect the grooming and not ride on it if the bike is leaving ruts and you can’t ride it in a straight line. Plus getting off to push makes even more of a mess (postholes)!

It’s just basic courtesy to the Groomers that volunteer their time and bodies and the Ski Clubs equipment and money that creates that packed trail (for skiers) that when the conditions are right can be ridden upon. Not to mention the safety issues with skiers and deep unpredictable ruts.
