Our volunteer grooming crew was at lake Como today. 550, upper road, wolf track, and the first 1.5 miles of lower road(550a) were groomed. Middle road, and the rest of lower road have only seen a few inches of snow since they were last groomed, so they should still be in great condition for classic skiing or snowshoeing. With the daily melt freeze cycles lately we are well into spring skiing conditions, so things will be very firm in the early morning, just right mid day, and might be to sticky in the afternoon.
Shannon Ridge and Kerns Turns single track trails are in great condition for Fat Biking right now.
Chief Joseph Pass 2/27/20

All trails at Chief Joseph Pass were groomed last night. There have been melt freeze cycles several days in a row, so the snow is setting up really nicely. It should be great conditions for skate skiing and fat biking on the multi use trails today.
Lost Horse and Skalkaho 2/19/20
Lost Horse Canyon was groomed yesterday, and Skalkaho Pass is being groomed today. If you are looking for something to ski this morning go to Lost Horse, if you’re looking for late afternoon, or something for tomorrow, Skalkaho might be a better choice. These trails are both groomed by the Bitterroot Ridge Runners snowmobile club, and are multiple use trails, open to snowmobiles, skis, bicycles, dogs, and more. If you are using these trails in the late afternoon or at night please use safety lights and/or reflectors to make it easier for snowmobilers to see you. A bike safety light hooked to your backpack is a great option, and you’re probably already carrying a headlamp, so consider turning it on before it gets dark for safety. Another great option to improve your visibility is to add retro reflective tape to your poles, it’s available at most hardware stores, and for a few dollars you can greatly improve your visibility in all conditions.

Skalkaho Pass 2/12/20
The bitterroot ridge runners snowmobile club will be grooming Skalkaho Pass today. It’s a great opportunity if your looking to ski or fat bike close to town this afternoon. If going very long distances, on expertly groomed trails, with hardly anyone around is your thing, there is not be a better spot anywhere in the country than Skalkaho Pass. There is 30+ miles of groomed trail, with 5000 feet of climbing, and on a weekday evening you might not see anyone but the squirrels.
If you enjoy using the groomed trails around the valley, please consider joining the cross country ski club, the snowmobile club, or coming to the trail work day at Chief Joseph Pass this Saturday at 10 am. The amazing groomed trail system around the valley would not be possible without the support of our volunteers.
